Announcements
Tenure and Promotion Considerations: The following faculty members are being considered for tenure and promotion to associate professor by the Professional Standards Committee: Ning Gao, chemistry; Michael Jenkins, economics; Kelley Raab, religious studies; and Laura Rediehs, philosophy. Letters from faculty and staff familiar with the work of the faculty members under consideration are vital in the review process. Especially helpful are letters which speak to the quality of the faculty member's teaching, scholarship and service. For a complete description of the criteria for appointment to tenure and promotion in rank, please consult the material provided on the Academic Affairs Web page through the link “Tenure and Promotion Considerations for Fall 2004.” Letters should be sent to Dean Grant H. Cornwell, Vilas 103, by Monday, October 11, 2004. Curricula vitae for the candidates are available at the ODY reserve desk and in the dean's office. Letters are used solely for the tenure and promotion process; confidentiality will be protected to the extent possible under the law.

Parking Update: The Parking Committee has issued the following interim update. The committee meets every Thursday at 3 p.m. for the duration of the semester and welcomes new members (faculty, staff and students) and visitors; contact convener Jarrod Caprow, jcaprow@stlawu.edu or 5554.
The Parking Policy, with the amendments presented below, will be adopted for enforcement on October 18. After that date, Security will be authorized to issue tickets and process other enforcement methods.
Flexibility in H (Vilas) Lot
We will create 12 spaces in the first row of H-Lot, the section nearest Vilas, for two-hour parking for anyone with a faculty/staff decal. If your assignment is H lot, please allow colleagues from other parts of campus first access to these spaces.
Parking Decals
Students received parking decals first, and then employees received decals according to lot assignments. (Decals with H, I, T assignments were printed incorrectly by the supplier; we apologize for the delay.) If you do not have your decal by now, you may not have registered your vehicle. As many as 135 people, we believe, work at St. Lawrence and drive to campus but have not sent registration materials. All have received reminders. Call security, 5554, if you have questions. If you have already received your decal, and once you do receive it, please affix it to your front windshield, right corner, by October 18. This space is legally correct for parking permits.
Parking Assignment Appeals
We received 15 appeals and all were approved if space was available in the requested lots. We could not approve appeals to move to a different lot if no space was available.
Enforcement Changes
We have made the enforcement policy more lenient:
*First violation per year: Ticket
*Second violation per year: Ticket
*Third violation per year: Ticket
*Fourth violation per year: Immobilize vehicle
*Fifth violation per year: Tow vehicle
We continue to believe that enforcement is necessary to assure safe and fair parking for and driving to and from campus.
