Announcements
Campaign St. Lawrence Celebration: Over 250
of the leading benefactors to Campaign St. Lawrence will visit campus to celebrate
the successful completion of the University's fund-raising initiative, to
witness some of the projects that have been made possible by their gifts.
The Campaign St. Lawrence celebration will take place on campus October 3
through 5. Planned events include tours of new facilities, academic seminars,
discussion of issues in higher education and events that provide opportunities
for participants to meet and talk with faculty and students.
Interim Director of Security: In a September
23, 2003, campus memo, Vice President and Dean of Student Life and Co-Curricular
Education M.L. Petty wrote, "Dick Matte, director of security and safety,
has begun a medical leave for an indefinite period. He will undergo back surgery
and will require time to recover and regain strength. I have asked Associate
Director/Deputy Chief of Security Patrick Gagnon to serve as interim director
until Chief Matte returns to campus.
Tenure and promotion considerations for 2003-2004:
The following faculty members are being considered for tenure and promotion
to associate professor by the Professional Standards Committee: Ilia Casanova-Marengo,
modern languages and literatures; Jeffery Greathouse, chemistry; Robert Cowser,
English; and Karl Schonberg, government. Letters from faculty and staff familiar
with the work of the faculty members under consideration are vital in the
review process. Especially helpful are letters that address the quality of
their teaching, scholarship and service. For a complete description of the
criteria for appointment to tenure and promotion in rank, please consult Section
III E (pages 59-61) of the Faculty Handbook, also available at the
Academic Affairs Web site. Letters should be sent to Dean Grant H. Cornwell,
Vilas 103, by Monday, October 13, 2003. Curricula vitae for the candidates
are available at the ODY reserve desk and in the Dean's office. Letters are
used solely for the tenure and promotion process; confidentiality will be
protected to the extent possible under the law.
