Professional Semester Applications: Applications for the fall 2005 Professional Semester (student teaching) are due by March 1, 2005, and must be accompanied by an up-to-date transcript and letter of recommendation from a field supervisor. Application forms may be picked up in the education office in Atwood Hall. Seniors interested in student teaching in the fall as graduate students in the Post-Baccalaureate Certification Program must also apply. Only those students seeking certification in math, science(s), English and social studies should apply for the fall Professional Semester. For information: Esther Oey, eoey@stlawu.edu or 5872.

Laurentian Room Name To Change: Chair of the Board of Trustees Lawrence J. Winston ’60 and his wife, Sally A. Winston, of Bonita Springs, Florida, have pledged $2.5 million to the University's next comprehensive fund-raising campaign, to be used in support of the St. Lawrence Fund and to provide permanent funding for what is now named The Laurentian Room in the Student Center. In recognition of their gift, the room will be named the Winston Room in their honor, and dedicated later this month.

Lunch Bunch: Laurentian Women's Association Lunch Bunch meets one Wednesday per month at noon in the Eben Holden Conference Room. Remaining dates for the spring semester are March 2, April 6 and May 4. Reservations must be made by noon the preceding day with Mickey Williams, 386-8781. Lunch Bunch is open to all women faculty and staff and wives of faculty and staff, including retirees.

Retirees Luncheons: University retirees gather for lunch one Tuesday a month at noon in the Eben Holden Conference Room. Remaining dates for the spring semester are March 8, April 12 and May 10. Reservations must be made by noon the preceding day with Mickey Williams, 386-8781, or Wanda Renick, 386-3474.

Achievements

The Family Wound, a novel by Assistant Professor of English Ngoc Quang Huynh, has been published by Starborn Books, Wales. It is described as “a young Vietnamese woman's desperate search for inner peace after surviving the horrors of war and the corruption and violence left in its wake.” The Friends of Owen D. Young and Launders Libraries will hold a celebration of the book's publication, featuring a talk by Huynh, on Friday, April 29, at 4 p.m. in the Josephine Young Room of Owen D. Young Library.
