Part-Time Officer

St. Lawrence University invites applications for the position of Part-Time Officer for Security & Safety.  Officers are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for members of the University community and visitors through the enforcement of University policies as well as village, state, and federal laws. Each officer is responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of the St. Lawrence University student handbook, university rules & regulations, and security department policies & procedures.  Qualifications:  High School Diploma required, Associates Degree preferred. Required: one year of law enforcement experience or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and ability can be acquired. Valid driver's license with a demonstrated safe driving history.  First Aid and CPR certification and NYS Security Guard License or NYS 8 hour Pre-Assignment Security Guard certification preferred.  Ability to get certifications required.  Applicants must exhibit dependable work traits; be able to perform required patrols over considerable distances including ascending and descending stair levels of at least 4 levels on a daily basis; be able to respond to emergency conditions including moving heavy objects; other physical exertion as required.  The officer must be able to exercise sound judgment and self control in emergency situations. Applicants must pass extensive background check to include but not limited to the submittals of fingerprints to New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Interested candidates should submit letter of interest, resume and the names, titles, and phone numbers of 3 professional references to the Associate Director of Human Resources.  Position open immediately.  Applications will be reviewed as received.
