Shuttle Van Drivers
Temporary/Per-diem/Call-in
General Description: Under the direction of the Transportation Coordinator and under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, performs various tasks relating to the transport of passengers in University vehicles.
Primary Responsibilities: Operates a vehicle/van safely and efficiently. Follows specific regularly scheduled routes, charter routes or responds to requests from the Transportation Coordinator, dispatch or management for unscheduled pick‑ups or drop‑offs. Assists the passengers in boarding and exiting vehicle. Loads and unloads luggage, packages and other items.
Reports any vehicle accidents or other safety situations to the dispatch center immediately.
Inspects exterior and interior of vehicle at beginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, interior courtesy lamps, checks fluids, air‑conditioning or heating, warning lamps, mirror adjustment, properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, vehicle damage, etc. prior to moving vehicle.
Responsible for ensuring inside and outside of vehicle are properly cleaned and fueled on an ongoing basis. Keeps interior of vehicle neat and orderly.
Monitors vehicle condition and records malfunctioning items or damage and notifies the dispatch center to have a work order submitted.
Accurately completes driver trip sheet for each shift with information including driver’s name, vehicle number, number of passengers, pick‑up and drop‑off times, mileages, fares, destinations, etc. Records passenger name and university ID number.
Customer service skills that respectfully communicate with passengers in a courteous, friendly and professional manner.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Must have 3-5 years work experience and meet University requirements for driving a University vehicle. Must possess a valid Driver’s License (CDL License preferred) with no convictions or at-fault accidents within the last year, and no DWAI, DWI, DUI convictions. Work experience in a driving or related position preferred. Applicant must be willing to submit to a detailed background check.
