Associate Professor and Department Chair
St. Lawrence University's Department of Education seeks a full-time Associate Professor of Education to coordinate its undergraduate and graduate-level, state-approved teacher education programs and to serve as Department Chair. The successful candidate will be reviewed for tenure within three years of the appointment date. Candidates should be generalists with expertise in secondary teacher education, including supervision of student teachers. Candidates must have: a Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree; experience in the education of teachers both from a liberal arts perspective as well as a professional preparation perspective; at least three years teaching experience in secondary schools; experience in teacher education on the post-secondary level; and abilities in program development and assessment. Background in curriculum development, educational research and publication, and constructivist approaches to teaching are preferred, as is experience with departmental leadership, year-round curriculum coordination, uses of educational technologies, and program evaluation.
The teacher education program at St. Lawrence prepares students for initial and on-going teaching certification in New York State and reciprocating jurisdictions in the subjects of 7-12 English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Foreign Language, and K-12 Art. The University offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Education (M. Ed.) and Certificate of Advanced Study (C.A.S.) in teaching, counseling, and educational leadership.
