Coordinator for Sexual Health Education and Violence Prevention
St. Lawrence University invites applications for a Sexual Health Education and Violence Prevention Coordinator. This position is a full-time, professional administrative position within the Division of Student Life scheduled to begin July 1, 2009. This is a grant-funded position that supports sexual violence prevention initiatives at the University and was awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), U.S. Department of Justice.
The Coordinator will provide health promotion and wellness programming, with special emphasis in the areas of sexual assault prevention and sexual health education. The Coordinator will serve as a resource and advocate to individual student victims/survivors of sexual violence. They will provide information about the coordination of victims’ services offered by SLU and community agencies as well as full information on legal and campus processes, health care options, and support services. The Coordinator will be responsible for developing, promoting, implementing and evaluating programming targeted at the reduction of sexual assault and the promotion of healthy sexuality. The Coordinator will serve as a liaison and collaborate with different campus constituents and community agencies to ensure that campus policies and protocols are effective in meeting the needs of victims/survivors and in holding offenders accountable. They will also ensure thorough outreach/education efforts are being implemented on campus. They will coordinate training efforts, conferences, and other major campus educational events. The Coordinator will participate in training efforts for Campus Security and Safety, as well as other staff and faculty on campus who work with survivors. They will assist in planning and implementing a wide range of project events, programs, and special events. The Coordinator will work with the Office on Violence Against Women and their technical assistance providers in the development and implementation of grant requirements and activities.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of three years of related experience, working with victims/survivors of relationship/domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Experience in coordinating programs and projects with advocacy and/or outreach efforts. Demonstrated understanding of violent crimes against women issues and knowledge of and experience with the unique issues of college communities. Ability to prepare and effectively deliver education programs and materials to university students. Ability to collaboratively partner with a multitude of stakeholders, on-or off-campus. Excellent communication (written and verbal) as well as general interpersonal skills. Demonstrated commitment to diversity. The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
