CSTEP/ McNair Program Coordinator

St. Lawrence University welcomes candidates for the position of Program Coordinator for both the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) and the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program working with first generation, low-income students and students underrepresented in science, health professions, technology, engineering and math in graduate school programs or in doctoral programs. This is a full time position associated with two grants within the Office of Academic Affairs. Position continuation is contingent on grant funding through the New York State Education Department and the U.S. Department of Education. (Current grants are up for renewal in 2010 and 2012.) Working with the Director of CSTEP and the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Program, the Program Coordinator will assist in recruitment; review applications; administer program surveys and evaluations; develop, review and maintain an educational/career plan for each program student; provide academic, financial, career and personal counseling; monitor student progress; plan and provide workshops and seminars; and assist with the tracking of program graduates.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or other human services field (Master’s preferred); personal or professional experience with undergraduate research programs or undergraduate programs in the STEM fields and NY State licensed professions; experience working with the targeted population; experience working with college faculty; and an understanding of the graduate school admissions experience. Candidates must also possess excellent communication skills, the ability to function effectively as a team member, experience in developing innovative programs in higher education, practical experience in developing and maintaining databases and database report generation, and the ability to guide students of diverse backgrounds to higher levels of academic achievement.
