ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

St. Lawrence University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Admissions.  Primary responsibilities will include the management of a large recruitment territory:  substantial travel to high schools and college fairs, interviewing, correspondence with students and counselors, and application review.  Involvement in other programs and projects is expected, based on the experience and interest of the individual selected, as is full participation in planning, implementing and evaluating the general activities of the admissions office.

Successful candidates will possess outstanding oral and written communication skills, a strong, self-motivated work ethic, and an appreciation of the value of a liberal arts education and of diverse cultures.  Candidates are expected to be highly organized, attentive to detail, technically proficient, and dedicated to the office and the University.  Proven ability to work with a wide variety of people, high energy, creative initiative, flexibility, and a sense of humor are essential.  Experience with recruitment via electronic media such as the Web is strongly preferred.  The ability and confidence to exercise discretion while working independently, as well as the commitment to working as part of a team, are expected.  As several weeks of recruitment travel are required, a valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel by air are required at the time of hiring and throughout the term of employment.  A bachelor’s degree is required and professional experience in admissions or related areas is strongly preferred.  A minimum commitment of two years is expected, and career interest in admissions or counseling is preferred.
