People often think that philosophy is abstract and far removed from everyday life. While it is true that some academic philosophers work on obscure problems that may not seem immediately relevant, all of philosophy emerges from and ultimately connects back to basic problems of human existence. Whenever you puzzle over what to do, and what are your reasons for making the choices you make, you are engaging in at least a little philosophical reflection. And since we spend a lot of time making decisions, that amounts to a surprising amount of time that everyone spends being philosophical.
