STUART DYBEK OPENS SLU'S WRITERS SERIES FOR 2006
CANTON - Author Stuart Dybek will speak and read from his work in an appearance at
St. Lawrence University on Thursday, January 26, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of
Sykes Residence Hall, the first event in the University's Writers Series for 2006.
It is open to the public, free of charge.
Dybek's latest work of fiction, I Sailed With Magellan, was a New York Times
Notable Book. He is the author of two collections of short stories, The Coast
of Chicago and Childhood and Other Neighborhoods, and a collection of poems,
Brass Knuckles. He has also published two books of poetry, Brass Knuckles and
Streets in Their Own Ink. Dybek's fiction, poetry and nonfiction have been
published in numerous magazines, including The New Yorker, Atlantic, Harper's,
DoubleTake and Poetry.
His many honors include a Lannan Literary Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Whiting
Writers' Award and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Dybek teaches at Western Michigan University.
