CANTON-ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY RACE WEEKEND HAS NEW SPONSOR
CANTON - The planning committee for the Canton-St. Lawrence University Race Weekend has
announced a naming sponsor for its half-marathon event; to be called the St. Lawrence
County Dunkin' Donuts Half-Marathon.
Dunkin' Donuts of St. Lawrence County has stores in Canton, Massena and Potsdam. Ray Aley,
owner of the St. Lawrence County stores, brings a variety of running- related experience
to his sponsorship of the half-marathon. He serves on the board of directors for Run
Vermont, the organization that owns and produces the Keybank Vermont City Marathon, and
is himself an avid runner. Registrations for race weekend can be picked up at the Dunkin'
Donuts stores in St. Lawrence County, Franklin County and Clinton County.
The St. Lawrence County Dunkin' Donuts Half-Marathon joins the Canton-Potsdam Hospital
Marathon and the St. Lawrence University Wellness Initiative 5K as part of race weekend.
This year's events will take place on Saturday, May 6. The day will find Canton filled with
runners, as St. Lawrence University will be hosting the state collegiate track meet on the
same day.
As in the previous two editions of the event, all profits from race weekend will be donated
to charity. This year's recipients will be the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity and
the St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House for Victims of Family Violence.
Musical entertainment will be provided for runners and spectators throughout the
day. Two free main-stage acts are being scheduled following the race in the Winston Room
of the St. Lawrence University Student Center. Watch for additional information about
these acts in the near future.
Runners can register for race weekend online at www.Active.com. Hard copies of the race
brochure and entry form can be obtained by e-mailing Bill Burns at wburns@stlawu.edu.
The race weekend Web site can be found at www.stlawu.edu/marathon.
