SLU HOSTING 'AIDS-AID' BENEFIT CONCERT
CANTON - St. Lawrence University's Amnesty International chapter will hold a benefit
concert called "AIDS-aid" on Friday, February 3, from 5 p.m. to midnight in the Winston
Room of the Student Center. There is no fee for admission, but donations are welcome,
with 75 percent of the proceeds going to the AIDS Community Resources of Northern New York
and 25 percent to the South Africa Ubuntu Project.
The event will feature performances by Hollywood Farm, the Singing Sinners, the Singing
Saints, the University's Gospel Choir, the Laurentian Singers, the SLU Dance Team and
other student and faculty musicians.
The South Africa Ubuntu Project builds partnerships with communities across the U.S.
and in South Africa to provide resources and support for communities that are
affected by HIV/AIDS. On Thursday, February 2, project founder the Rev. LaDonna
Sanders, of Chicago, will give a lecture and spoken-word performance at 7:30 p.m.
in Herring-Cole. It is open to the public, free of charge.
