Refworks Overview
What Refworks Does
- With Refworks you can save citations for research you do and have them in electronic format.
- Generate bibliographies from the citations you save in any bibliographic format you need.
Refworks Doesn't
- Refworks is not a software that eliminates the need to invest time in research, it does not automatically "type out" bibliographies.
Refworks Lives
- On the SLU Libraries web site, on the Course Materials page, on the Journal Indexes and Databases page, our Reference Contact page, the Site Index, and on the Science Library web site.
To Use Refworks
- You must open a Refworks account.
- You must have Refworks open to export citations
- You can save citations to Refworks from Academic Search Elite, Alt-HealthWatch, Alt-PressWatch, America History and Life, Business Search Elite, Econlit, Environmental Science and Pollution Management Abstracts, Ethnic NewsWatch, General Science Abstracts, GenderWatch, GeoRef, Historical Abstracts, Humanities Abstracts, Left Index, MLA Bibliography, Project Muse, Social Science Abstracts, SocIndex, and the FirstSearch databases.
What is Write-N-Cite
- Write-N-Cite is a utility that enables you to draw citations from Refworks while you are writing.
- You must download Write-N-Cite from Refworks, and install it as an option on Microsoft Word toolbars (this is not hard to do).
- You click the icon to insert citations, and once you choose a bibliographic format Write-N-Cite will generate a bibliography based on those citations.
