Immunization Guidelines for travel
abroad programs
Currently, all abroad programs associated with
SLU require that each student meet with the travel health coordinator
at Winning Health Center, in order to determine specifically which
immunizations they will need for their trip and which malaria prophylaxis
(if any) is appropriate for the area they will be visiting.
At this meeting, the
student will be given a list of the suggested and required immunizations
and a plan will be formulated for the completion of these immunization
requirements. Many times the
immunizations are given at Winning Health Center, but in cases where
the student opts to get the immunizations elsewhere, information on
how best to achieve this will be provided as well.
As
soon as the student gets accepted into an abroad program, they should
call Winning Health Center and schedule and appointment to meet with
the travel health coordinator, in order to prepare for their trip
in a timely manner. This would involve completion of the necessary
immunizations at least 30 days prior to departure.
This is in an ongoing
effort to assure that our students receive maximum protection from
any diseases they may encounter overseas and that they are given the
most updated information to travel safely in whatever part of the
world they choose to explore.
