Requirements for the Major
The 14 courses must be distributed as follows: Global Studies 101
Introduction to Global Studies I: Political Economy
In these two courses, students will be introduced to major global processes and phenomena such as cultural interaction, economic globalization, environmental degradation, demographic transitions, geography, ecology, representation, identity, signs and symbols, development-underdevelopment, and the changing role of states. Six (6) courses in two areas of concentration:
Two (2) courses in comparative/global/transnational analysis: Students will be required to select two from a menu of courses which employ a comparative or transnational approach in their design. All approved Cultural Encounters courses (24 to date) as well as those listed in the appendix will count toward this requirement. majors will be expected to study a second language. Students should consult
with their advisor or the Chair of Global Studies on how to fulfill this
requirement.
