The purpose of this study was to determine which set of variables (i.e., satisfaction, enjoyment, self-confidence, or demographic variables) best predicts whether an athlete-coach relationship will be compatible or incompatible.  Approximately 100 varsity high school athletes, playing ice hockey, basketball, indoor track, and wrestling, along with their coaches, will participate in the study.  Participants will fill out the Adapted Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientations-Behavior (Adapted FIRO-B), Leadership Scale for Sports (preference version), Scale of Athlete Satisfaction, Trait Sport-Confidence Inventory, Enjoyment Survey, and a Demographics Questionnaire.  The researchers for this study created the Enjoyment Survey and the Demographics Questionnaire.  Using a 9-point Likert scale, athletes will also be asked to rate their overall relationship with their coach and the degree to which their goals, personality, and beliefs are consistent with their coach’s goals, personality, and beliefs.  Coaches will complete the following questionnaires that assess their perceptions of their own coaching behavior:  Adapted Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientations-Behavior and Leadership Scale for Sports (coach version). Logistic regression will be performed to determine which variables are the best predictors of compatibility.  Playing time will be used as a covariate.
