Theo Hummer's teaching interests include creative writing (poetry and fiction), American poetry from 1865 to the present, critical race studies, and cultural studies.  She holds a BA from the University of California at Berkeley, an MFA from Cornell University, and is completing her Cornell doctoral dissertation, "Spell from the Colored Section: Formal Experimentation, Performance, and Segregation in Contemporary US Poetry."  In Ithaca, she co-founded and co-curated the SOON poetry reading series.  She has taught in a Czech cigarette factory, at Auburn Maximum Security Men's Prison, and at Hobart and William Smith Colleges; her poetry has appeared in Sentence, Vox, Equilibrium, the Indiana Review, Best New Poets 2006, and on the Verse website.
