Mari Rethelyi
I received my PhD from the University in Chicago in 2009 in Jewish Studies. Before coming to St Lawrence University I had a visiting position at the University of Iowa where I taught classes in Jewish studies, Bible and Christianity. At present, my research examines one of the vital cases in Judaism, the effect of the modern ideologies of nationalism upon the writing of history in Central European Judaism. I have a strong commitment to teaching where I take a student-centered, communicative approach. I encourage my students to develop critical skills towards the materials, and emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary, comparative approaches as well as critical thinking. I have sought to present study materials in a variety of ways in order to appeal to the differences in learning styles of the students and to develop their interests and skills towards the course materials.
