Text Box:  The Fall 2003 semester at SLU began with a new program on campus, some staffing changes, a few changes in office placements, and ten seniors ready to work with selected faculty mentors on research projects. 
The McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, a federal TRIO grant program, opened its doors in August. Margaret Kent Bass, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, is the Executive Director of the grant program, and she coordinates the faculty mentor portion of the grant. She is assisted in her office by Sherrie Kelly and Angela Johnston. Carol Ann Kissam, Director of the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program and former counselor Text Box: for the Higher Education Opportunity Program, is the McNair Program Director working with the McNair Scholars.  She is assisted by Rhonda Furgison.
McNair Scholars and their mentors were announced at Convocation and are already ensconced in research. They are as follows:

Text Box:  Sharing a theme cottage has provided the women of the Black Women’s Residence with a unique connection this year. All four house members are currently either members of the McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program or the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program, and in one Text Box: case—both. 
Felicia Conde (CSTEP), Prisca Fall (McNair), Debbie Henry (CSTEP), and Kandyce McGill (McNair and CSTEP) have been BWR members for two years. During that time they have supported one another in their efforts toward academic sucText Box: cess and toward fulfilling their future goals. The four senior women are featured in this month’s McNair/CSTEP newsletter and provide a model to other students about how working together can promote success for all.
