Instructor: Larry BoyetteThe relationship between France and the United States has been shaped by the history and memory of World War II. This course will seek to understand the ways in which prevailing interpretations of the events of the war and its aftermath continue to inform each nation's understanding of its role in world affairs and its perceptions of the national character of the other. Foci of our study will include diplomatic and military strategy in the run-up to war; collaboration and resistance; the Normandy Campaign and Allied strategy; and the postwar fate of French colonial power.
