Washington Semester Program

Introduction The Washington Semester Program, as part of American University in Washington DC, was established in 1947. It is a cooperative venture - of about 200 member colleges and universities - that allows students to take advantage of the resources of Washington, DC. During the program, students are immersed in Washington culture as they work in the nation's capital with famous policy makers and business professionals.

The American University, through the Washington Semester Program office, provides administrative guidance and support and supervises the admission of students into the various program offerings.

Students enroll in one of the following programs through St. Lawrence University:

• American Politics
• Economic Policy
• Foreign Policy
• International Business and Trade without the travel component
• International Environment and Development §
• International Law and Organizations §
• Journalism
• Justice
• Public Law
• Transforming Communities

§ denotes programs with 3-week study abroad components. Students are financially responsible for the additional costs associated with these programs (approximately $4,000).

Although the Washington Semester Program (WSP) offers other programs, only the programs listed above are approved for SLU credit.
