I’ll admit: a good part of the reason I wanted to come to St. Lawrence was the chemistry building, Johnson Hall of Science, set to open in the fall of my sophomore year. When I got here, I hadn’t yet met any of the faculty, but I wasn’t worried. I knew that I was a pretty easygoing person that would adapt to the environment. Well, I didn’t have to do much adapting; the faculty members were easy to get along with and learn from. When you approach them with questions, they’re always willing to help because they want you to learn and be interested in the subject matter. The faculty themselves all received their degrees from highly respected institutions, and I feel we are very lucky to have the mix of backgrounds and specialties that we have in the department. In addition to learning from talented faculty, I have had opportunities for student research and access to methods and equipment here not available at many other institutions like St. Lawrence. I am very happy with my choice to study chemistry at St.Lawrence.
