Dr. Erika Barthelmess (http://it.stlawu.edu/~bart/Barthelmess/) is an Associate Professor of Biology, having received her Ph.D. at the University of Kansas followed by a postdoc at Vanderbilt University. Her interests in Africa stem from a semester abroad in Kenya when she was an undergraduate.  She is interested in a broad range of issues concerning wildlife conservation in Africa and is a member of the Africa section of the Society for Conservation Biology (http://www.conbio.org/SCB/Activities/Sections/Africa/). With students, she is conducting research on the effects of grazing by domestic stock on wildlife habitat quality in southern Kenya.  She is also interested in comparing approaches to wildlife conservation from different regions of the African continent.  At St. Lawrence since 1999, Dr. Barthelmess has assisted with course development for the SLU program in Kenya and also teaches classes in Conservation Biology, Mammalogy, Vertebrate Natural History, and Behavioral Ecology.
