Week 10
October 17-24, 2007
Dominique Edgerly and James Douglas
Its been a warm week from autumn in the Adirondacks. This Monday reached 80 degrees in Tupper Lake - probably an all time high for the third week in October. Everyone at Arcadia has been taking advantage of the weather by mountain biking, running on the trails and spending quality time on the lake. Hackey-sack has also become popular to play in the warm sunshine. This Friday we had a night filled with banjo tunes provided by Kurt Stoger who plays in a band with Everett, our paddle-making mentor. This weekend was stuffed with work for the activist workshop we took part in with Dan Plumley and Josh from the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks. They taught us all about how the Adirondack Park Agency manages the park which led smoothly right into the field trip we took with Glenn on Monday. Stuart Halinger came with Glenn to talk to us about the purposed ski resort for Tupper Lake. We then visited the site and took some souvenirs back with us after meeting the developer himself. (We all reacted like he was a celebrity.) Hopefully the cool weather will return next week, all of us at Arcadia are getting antsy for fall to finally arrive so that we can carve pumpkins by campfire.
