Week 6

October 3, 2007

Laura and Emily

This week was action packed! From going to the Adirondack Museum with Glenn on Monday to visiting another bog with Wil on Friday and having parents weekend on top of everything else. All of the students were excited about the museum and were able to gain further knowledge in the history of logging, the use of horses as a mode of transportation, and the history of recreation in the Adirondacks. Our photographer, Tara came along for the day and took some great action shots (I'm pretty sure she didn't mind the museum - it was pretty amazing!).

On Tuesday and Wednesday we went to Gannett to work on our paddles with Everett. Today is our last day working with him. Some students have completed their paddles and have started a second! All the paddles are unique and give a flare of the individual that formed it.

Wil took us to an amazing bog that students were engaged by. The floor of the bog was actually on water so it moved with every step we took. Everyone made it out (your would start sinking if you stayed on one spot for too long) though a few people got a little wet. We were able to look at pitcher plants (they gain nutrients by trapping insects). As usual, it was another great day with Wil!

our week ended with parents weekend and mid-semester break (a much needed break for students). The parents enjoyed visiting Arcadia and seeing were their children have been for the past six weeks. Pas Adirondack semester students cooked a wonderful dinner for everyone on Saturday night at Gannett. The meal ended by listening to music put on by the "Jam Crackers". They did a great job and most students, as well as a couple of parents and faculty, got up and danced to a few of their songs. It was a great weekend and everyone enjoyed seeing their families.
