At St. Lawrence
At SLU I was a tour guide for admissions, participated in intramural sports--broomball and basketball-- was an active member of Circle K, a peer tutor in Spanish, and worked in the Spanish writing center. I also participated in St. Lawrence’s study abroad program in Spain (2007-2008).
I chose SLU because of its strong language department and its rich study abroad programs. When I came to St. Lawrence I knew that I wanted to major in Spanish and participate in the St. Lawrence program in Madrid; I was also attracted to the university because of its great education program which allows students to complete a semester of student teaching and graduate as a certified 7-12 teacher even before they enter a graduate program. I speak Spanish fluently and am proficient in German at the beginning level.
After Graduation
I attended an intense six-week graduate program at the Middlebury School of Language where I will continue during the next few summers until I have finished my Masters in Spanish. Very I recently I accepted a position as a high school Spanish teacher in South Glens Falls, N.Y.
I found that St. Lawrence prepared me very well for the intense graduate language program in Middlebury as well as for my position as a high school language teacher. I have so much respect for St. Lawrence professors and greatly appreciate the emphasis they placed on writing and communication because it has helped me immensely. During my senior year I was able to work one on one with Associate Professor of Spanish Marina Llorente to complete a Spanish honors’ project on women’s rights and the feminist movement in Spain. My plans for the future are to complete my Masters in Middlebury and to continue my career at South High School Spanish teacher. I also plan to return to Madrid and spend my summers traveling around Spain, and ,of course , to visit SLU for as many alumni events as possible!
